About Lake View

Lake View is situated in Newton Abbot, a town which straddles the River Lemon, and which was once a quiet country backwater in rural Devon, that was until the Great Western Railway opened it up to the outside world. Nowadays, it is a bustling town with indoor and outdoor markets and many excellent shops and facilities. It is often called the “Gateway to moor and sea” owing to its proximity to the Dartmoor National Park and the popular seaside resorts of Torquay and Teignmouth. Newton Abbot has its own railway museum and, of course, the Newton Abbot racecourse for a day out trying your luck on the horses. Inside the town itself can be seen St Leonard’s Tower, all that remains of a Medieval church demolished in the 19th century. There is a house of interest worth visiting in Newton Abbot; Forde House was built with an ‘E’ shaped floor plan. Both Charles I and William of Orange are known to have stayed there. Newton Abbot is close to the city of Exeter and is only a short distance from the M5 motorway.
