Financial & legal considerations

We recognize that moving into a care home is a big step and has financial implications.
We can provide initial guidance about some of the financial options available and how they work. This includes considering whether the Local Authority may assist with funding and we can explain their financial assessment procedure. In certain circumstances, it may even be that the fees would be wholly paid by the NHS. When we think this may be a possibility we will tell you. We can then put you in touch with a specialist solicitor who will confirm whether this is a possibility and can help you to apply. If successful, this would mean that there is no contribution required by the resident or their family. We have a good relationship with a South West based firm of solicitors, who specialize in elderly care advice.
In particular, they have an expertise in the rules and procedure for NHS funding of residential care; in some cases this leads to recovering care home fees already paid by the family. An initial consultation is free of charge. They are able to provide help and detailed advice on many other areas such as:
  • Residential care and payment of care home fees
  • Wills, trusts and living wills
  • Powers of Attorney
  • Management of personal financial affairs
  • Court of Protection/Deputyship
  • Property issues.
